John 20:21 says, “So Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you.’” Now that the disciples are glad having seen Jesus resurrected (v. 20), Jesus says again, “peace to you.” Why? Because he is sending them out as the Father sent him: on a mission of peace. The Father is justifiably angry with sinners (Romans 1:18). Since Adam and Eve, we as outsiders have made a mess of everything (Romans 3:10-18). He “made peace through the blood of his cross” (Colossians 1:19) and “is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14) in unifying people and “preached peace” (Ephesians 2:17). Despite that, many don’t want or are not ready for peace so they respond with the sword (Matthew 10:34). As his sent ambassadors we too bring and ‘preach’ peace to outsiders around us. Let’s make sure they see the peace of God inside us today.
