John 20:19 says, “Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” Mary Magdalene told the 11 disciples what Jesus told her that Resurrection morning. But they remained in the upper room “for fear of the Jews” coming for them next. Jesus appears to them despite closed doors and says “peace.” His arrival must have startled them. Fearful people need power. If you have power you don’t fear. From Abraham (Genesis 15:1) to Jesus (Revelation 1:17) the King James Bible says 63 times, “fear not.” Jesus’ presence brings God’s power. When they had him, they had his power and thus his peace. Let’s tap into God’s presence through the Spirit so his peace will preside today.
