John 19:39-40 says, “And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.” Only John mentions Nicodemus helping Joseph bury Jesus. Introducing him in John 3:1-2, Nick appears again in 7:50 following and finally discovering Jesus is the Messiah. Joseph was a wealthy man from a prominent family. Both witnessed Jesus’ trial as Sanhedrin members. Both probably came to faith independently. Now they came together to serve their Savior at a critical time. How many wonderful new brothers and sisters in Christ’s Body don’t we meet by failing to do as Nick and Joe did? Let’s regularly seize opportunities to serve Christ as outsiders watch our love in action giving him glory.
