John 18:12,15 says, “Then the detachment of troops and the captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound him… And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.” Arrested and bound in Gethsemane, the soldiers took Jesus to Annas, father-in-law to the high priest Caiaphas. Can you see God in human form tied up being pushed along at night? By all accounts this unnamed “another” disciple is John himself. Known to Caiaphas, he took a huge risk staying near Jesus. He was so humble he would not mention his name in his account of Jesus. Talk about humility! He wants Jesus totally front and center. I hope we do too. Let’s make sure outsiders know that we “decrease” while making Jesus “increase” (3:30).
