John 17:25 says, “O righteous Father! The world has not known you, but I have known you; and these have known that you sent me.” Jesus concludes his high priestly prayer to his “righteous Father,” seeming to contrast God’s character to all the unrighteousness that’s immediately coming with Judas’ betrayal and what would follow. That’s how the world “that has not known” the Father acts. Nebuchadnezzar’s magicians admitted that the “gods’…dwelling is not with flesh” (Daniel 2:11). The Greeks built an idol to “the Unknown God” (Acts 17:23). Following false gods is yields the same evil results. But really knowing the Father sent Jesus is equivalent to eternal life (v. 3, 8, 23). That knowledge and life is meant for the world of outsiders (v. 23) all around us. Be ever so thankful today Jesus has made us messengers of hope for needy friends still in darkness and brokenness.
