John 16:14-15 says, “He will glorify me, for he will take of what is mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are mine. Therefore I said that he will take of mine and declare it to you.” So many of Jesus’ last words on the Mount of Olives were critical. Still speaking of the Holy Spirit, Jesus said he will ‘receive’ — translated twice here as “take” — to “declare it to” the disciples. This includes what they said when arrested (Acts 4 and 5) and writing the New Testament letters. We perhaps are no more like the Spirit than when we position ourselves to receive from Jesus what the Spirit received. And the purpose is to “declare it,” as Paul “declared the whole counsel of God” to the Ephesian elders (Acts 20:27). Let’s move from receptors to channels today by declaring God’s goodness to outsiders.
