Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” In Old Testament terms, “saints” can angels or people trying to obey God’s law. Angels don’t die, so the latter meaning is meant. God says both our life (Ps. 72:14) and death (here) are “precious,” meaning highly prized. God has “no pleasure in the death of the wicked” (Ezek. 33:11) because everyone is made in God’s image and he doesn’t want any in hell. Thus the importance of respecting the inherent dignity in every human being no matter their depravity or weakness.
