John 12:2-3 and 7 says, “ There they made him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil… But Jesus said, ‘Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of my burial.'” Back in Bethany after Lazarus’ resurrection, Jesus ate with his family. Martha served but Mary anointed his feet with expensive oil from an Indian plant. Jesus said it was for his burial, knowing the near future. Mary did it as worship, not a prophecy, and her sacrifice “filled the house with fragrance.” Do our actions reflect such sacrifice? Do they impact those around us? Let’s make sure our lives, thoughts, decisions and actions are centered on Jesus today.
