John 11:53-54 says, “ Then, from that day on, they plotted to put him to death. Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there remained with his disciples.” Immediately after high priest Caiaphas predicted Jesus’ death (v. 49) to save Israel from the Romans (so he thought), her leaders “plotted to put him to death.” Notice they didn’t plan to arrest and charge him. That was a mere formality. Getting him killed was their objective because he was already dead to them. Jesus’ response? Get to a safe place, probably Ephron, 12 miles from Jerusalem. He knew what to do. Do we seek similar wisdom when our opponents threaten us? Jesus did, and he was in perfect communion with the Father. Let’s pray for wisdom to know what we should do in tough times.
