Devotional Observation – July 16, 2016

John 4:9 says, “Then the woman of Samaria said to [Jesus], ‘How is it that you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?’ For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.” Jesus and his disciples ventured into Samaria, a place Jews for the most part ignored to the point of walking around the area to avoid walking through it. Jesus obviously didn’t practice that kind of ethnic bigotry and wouldn’t tolerate it among his disciples. [I don’t call this “racism” because the word “race” was hijacked by evolutionists over 100 years ago to help explain human evolution. There is only one human race (Acts 17:26).] Jesus clearly caught this woman by surprise by his demeanor and respect for her, despite her being a female too. This was by design. How do we treat others that are different from us? Being like Jesus includes respect and love for all people, the best ways for initial outreach.
