Psalm 99:8 says, “You answered them [Moses, Aaron & Samuel, v. 6], O Lord our God; you were to them God-Who-Forgives, though you took vengeance on their deeds.” Here we see the mercy (“forgiveness”) and justice (“vengeance”) of God operating under the law on 3 great leaders. Under grace, we who are not leaders like these 3 men know that God’s justice was fulfilled when Jesus received the Father’s vengeance paying for our sins. Our response? “Exalt the Lord our God” (v. 9).
