John 21:25 says, “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.” Thus John concludes his gospel. “Many other things” here mirrors “many other signs” in 20:30, revealing his purpose for writing: that we would trust Jesus and have eternal “life in his name” (v. 31). That the world “could not contain the books” about “the many other things Jesus did” indicates just how big, just how incredible and awesome he really is. What we have in the Bible is a more-than-sufficient record of God’s acts in time. And it has stood the test of time. From Old Testament Jews to Jesus to the Church, God continues to work in and through all his people, including us. Let’s continue this legacy as his people everyday.
