John 12:30-31 says, “Jesus answered and said, ‘This voice did not come because of me, but for your sake. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.'” God the Father spoke over Jesus from heaven about glorifying his own name (v. 28). Jesus would die shortly. His death would be “the judgment of this world.” Notice first: “the ruler of this world (Satan) will be cast out.” Already “cast out” of heaven (Rev. 12:9), Jesus’ death seals his fate. Second, Jesus’ death pays for our sins. Opposite outcomes for the enemy and people made in God’s image, but only if they trust him for salvation. The devil is already doomed. Although he is still active we can live free from his power (James 4:7). Let’s make sure we don’t fall into his traps. Drawing near to Jesus insures our victory.
