Devotional Observation – October 14, 2016

John 12:5-7 says, But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray him, said, ‘Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?’ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.” At the dinner where Mary anointed Jesus, Judas became indignant complaining that Mary’s oil, costing a year’s wage, should have been sold to help the poor. By this he camouflaged his pilfering of money given to support Jesus and his disciples. Helping poor people is good, but the good can be the enemy of the best. Judas never understood Mary’s worship. There will always be people promoting “good” things at Christian gatherings. Let’s make sure we keep our eyes on Jesus, the best, and not just the “good.”
