John 16:13 says, “However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak; and he will tell you things to come.” Continuing to tell his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane about the Holy Spirit, Jesus said the Helper “will guide you into all truth.” We’ve heard the saying, “All truth is God’s truth.” God says Jesus is the truth (14:6) and wants everyone to “come to [know] truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). Some will be “ever learning but never come [to know] truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). The Spirit acts like Jesus not speaking “on his own authority” (14:10) even though he “will tell you things to come.” We too should only speak on God’s authority. When doing so, be prepared for the consequences whatever they are.
