John 15:26-27 says, “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify of me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.” After talking in Gethsemane about haters (vs. 24-25), Jesus returns to “the Helper,” or advocate/supporter, meaning the Holy Spirit. Here we see the operation of the Trinity: the Father sent the Son, mentioned throughout John, and the Son sends the Spirit who “proceeds from the Father.” All three are mentioned in order of ministry: God commands, Jesus saves, the Spirit resources (us). The Helper “testifies” of Jesus, and since he is in us, we too will “bear witness” (same Greek word as testify). It’s great knowing that we’re never alone when facing hateful outsiders. Let’s be faithful today in our witness whether they’re watching or not.
