John 14:17 says, “ [He will give you] the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; but you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” As Jesus spoke to his disciples shortly before Judas betrayed him, he said the Father would give them “the Spirit of truth.” The world couldn’t receive him because it neither saw nor knew him. Not even the disciples could see him because the Spirit is invisible. The only way to know him was to see Jesus. Thus they could recognize the Spirit who was like Jesus in nature and character. The Spirit was “with” them and soon would be “in” them. Having the Spirit like the prophets and kings before them was the hope of all Jews. Since we have the same Spirit today, let’s live like it for his glory.
