John 11:23-25 says, “ Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’ Martha said to him, ‘I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live.'” Jesus’ conversation with Martha is unambiguous. Lazarus was dead. Jesus promises he will live again. Martha agrees but limits it to the “last day.” She had no idea of Jesus’ intention, especially since Lazarus was buried for 4 days (v. 39). She thought like we would. In one of his many deity statements in John, Jesus says he is “the resurrection,” meaning all life, spiritual and otherwise, is in him. Because we are in him, we have eternal life right now. It should be visible to others by God’s qualities and characteristics in us. Is it?
