John 6:37-38 says, “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.” Jesus said this to the Jewish crowd he fed miraculously. He said he came “down from heaven” as the bread of life (v.35) similar to the manna came down from heaven in the dew of the morning (Exodus 16:4,14). The writer John mentions “come down from heaven” 7 times (v. 33-58). He also mentions “raise it/him up at the last day” 4 times. He was there before us and will be there after us, a sure indication of his eternal nature. As God’s Son, he came not to do his own will but the will of his Father. This is a great reminder of what should be our life purpose. Amen!
