John 1:16-17 says, “And of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” Earlier in verse 14 we saw that Jesus was “full of grace and truth.” Interestingly, this is the last time we see grace mentioned in John, but truth/truly/true occurs 55 times. John the Baptist here says we have all received, and grace for grace, meaning that as Jesus shares his grace, it keeps on coming in never-ending abundance (Romans 5:20). We keep on receiving because he keeps on giving. It is grace for grace’s sake. It is grace to be born again and grace to grow in Christ. As the law came through one mediator, Moses, so Christ is the only Mediator dispensing grace, which overshadows, supersedes and replaces law. Amen!
