Psalm 127:1 says “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” In verse 2 Solomon the writer includes his work-a-day life. In verses 3-5 he talks about having a family. Though this psalm is written generally from a male point of view — building a home, guarding a city, “happy is the man…” (v. 5) — women too can appreciate the Lord being involved whatever males or females do in life, whether it’s work or family or recreation. “Unless the LORD” is involved, and unless our eyes are on him, it will be fruitless because “without me,” Jesus said, “you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
