Psalm 121, after describing the Lord as the One “who made heaven and earth” (v. 2), uses the words (in English) “keep,” “keeper,” and “preserve” 6 times in verses 3-5, 7-8. All three English words come from the same word in Hebrew, shamar. It means to protect, guard, watch over and care for. He does this for us 24/7 because he doesn’t “slumber” (vs. 3-4). His protection is over us everywhere, in our “going out and coming in” (v. 8) and always, “forevermore” (v. 8). We are never out of his watchful care no matter time, place or circumstance. We can never be out of the Lord’s hands (John 10:28-29). That should produce in us a humble but strong confidence in him. Amen!
