Daniel 1:15-16 says, “And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies. Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.” Having been trained in all things Chaldean (v. 4) and received a Babylonian name (v. 6), Daniel asked Melzar, chief of the eunuchs, if he and his friends could eat vegetables instead of King Nebuchadnezzar’s food that had been sacrificed to idols. After “ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh” than the other eunuchs eating the king’s food. Already granting Daniel favor with Melzar (v. 9), God now made Daniel and friends look better and healthier. It wasn’t so much the veggies as his blessing Daniel’s courage and faith. Let’s copy Daniel’s example today.
