John 21:7-8 says, “Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’ Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.” The disciples just made a big haul of fish (v. 6) after catching nothing all night. John recognized it was Jesus on the shore who called to them. After dressing himself, impetuous Peter left the boat to get to Jesus 100 yards away. The others dragged the full net to shore. Peter obviously thought Jesus was more important than fish, having “left their nets” (Matthew 4:20) earlier. But this net was full. Let’s remember that Jesus’ disciples honor him in many different ways.
