John 17:24 says, “Father, I desire that they also whom you gave me may be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory which you have given me; for you loved me before the foundation of the world.” Nearing the end of his prayer to the Father, Jesus gets to the two ultimate goals for his disciples whom the Father gave him. One goal was to be with him where he is. The second was to “behold [his] glory.” Moses asked God, “Please show me your glory” (Exodus 33:18). God showed his “back” but not his “face” (v. 23). And that was on earth. Seeing Christ’s glory tells us that it was in heaven where Jesus wanted to be with us. There “we will be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). May his ultimate goals be our ultimate objective each day.
