John 13:19-20 says, “Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me.” At the Last Passover dinner, Jesus said this after quoting Psalm 41:9 predicting Judas’ betrayal. He said this to affirm their faith in Jesus as the “I am” (Exodus 3:14). He also shows that he is in control of all events. Even more, whoever accepts us (“whomever I send”) in Jesus’ name “receives” him, and in turn “receives” the Father “who sent him.” The Father sent Jesus to the world, he sends us to outsiders, and outsiders who “receive” us trust him. Consider the tremendous honor we have received as an extension of God’s grace to the world. Let’s extend it to others today.
