John 8:33-34 says, “They answered him, ‘We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will be made free?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.'” The Jews were offended that Jesus told them (v. 32), “The truth will make you free.” He shamed them violating their sense of honor. So they resort to their patriarch Abraham to counter his claim and restore some dignity. But Jesus was on a whole different wavelength mentioning slavery to sin, something they showed repeatedly in confronting him. That was the least of their concerns but primary to him. Do we do the same? Fill in this blank: “My sense of ___________ keeps me from hearing from him.” Ask God to show you. If we want freedom, let’s do inventory today and permanently remove this obstacle.
