John 8:21a & 24 says, “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘I am going away, and you will seek me, and will die in your sin…Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins, for if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins.'” As the conversation between Jesus and the Jews in John 8 heated up, Jesus said they will seek him but not find him. Result? Dying in their sin, singular. In the New Testament sin in the singular means either a single sin or the environment of being born and living in the realm of sin. Verse 24 twice says sins, plural. This means that God holds people accountable for each and every sin. Because they rejected Jesus (sin) they will pay for all transgressions (sins). Rejoice that Jesus got us out of both! Let’s live like it today.
