John 7:14-17 says, “Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying, ‘How does this Man know letters, having never studied?’ Jesus answered them and said, ‘My doctrine is not mine, but his who sent me. If anyone wills to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority.'” Jesus attended the Feast of Tabernacles and taught so impressively that the Jews wondered how he “knew letters,” i.e., knowing written manuscripts at rabbinical schools (universities) or learning under great rabbis (scholars), without studying. He didn’t; he’s smarter than all the universities and scholars put together! That’s why when we choose to follow Christ, we’ll know his teaching is from heaven (not man) and a lot more! But we first must be committed to his will to be teachable. How committed are we?
