John 3:18-19 says, “He who believes in [Christ] is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” In these 2 verses “believing” and “condemnation” are used 3 times set in an inverse relationship connected by the word “no”: belief = no condemnation; no belief = condemnation. The reason for this inversion is that people do not love God, proven by their evil deeds. In condemnation (no belief) we see God’s justice; in belief (no condemnation) his love/mercy/kindness. That God punishes evil and shows mercy points to his abundant goodness. Thank him for it today.
