John 2:16 says, “And he said to those who sold doves, ‘Take these things away! Do not make my Father’s house a house of merchandise!'” In this chapter John records Jesus clearing the Temple of those selling animals for sacrifice. This happened in Jesus’ first year of ministry. They were back at it in his third year when he again cleared the Temple. These Jews were pretty committed to this convenience to resist God’s Son. This can be true of us too. How much are we concerned about our convenience over the welfare of others? If our choices show a greater concern for God’s will, it will go a long way in developing Christ’s character in us.
